In November 2022, we bought a 2008 sprinter van and set out to make it worthy of a month long family road trip across the US, which we completed in June of '23....here is how it went!
June 14th we continued our 5 hour drive to Badlands National Park. We found out that South Dakota doesn't have much of anything going on until you start seeing Billboards for Wall Drug....Free Ice Water! We also saw signage for Firehouse Brewing Co. What I loved about Firehouses advertising was that at several billboards their were old antique firetrucks definitely eye catching for a 3 year old boy!!!
It was hard to believe that Badlands National Park was coming up, I didn't see anything that resembled it until we had taken the exit and then just after you turn left- you could begin to see what started to resembled the Badlands. We didn't have a ton of time to explore so we stopped at a few over overlooks that seemed interesting and easy enough to park. It was a very strange and beautiful place! I was really hoping we would have seen a Bison but instead we got to see a few Prairie dogs that were especially cute! After we left the Badlands the route that we were on to head to Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska had us enter and leave the Badlands 4 more times!!
We arrived to Carhenge in the evening and was able to completely walk the entire place in less than 30 minutes. It was definitely a cool stop that we recommend for car/r loving people!! From Carhenge we headed towards Billings, MT. On our way we hit a beautiful lightening/thunder storm, I was able to capture a lightning strike on video, then I was able to snap a still from that! It was definitely a 1st time I've ever captured something so natural and beautiful with my cell phone!
We stopped for the night at Dwyer Junction Rest Area, Wheatland, WY which happened to be a very nice rest area, it was quiet, beautiful and even had water and septic dumps for other RV/campers at no charge....definitely a spot to stop by if you are in the area and need some rest!
